The Ruta da Hucha is a trail approximately 7–8 km long with moderate difficulty, connecting places such as Pradías with the Campa de Centenales and passing by the Dolmen da Hucha (a megalithic monument made of large stone slabs that served as a collective burial site in prehistoric times). Along its route, it crosses landscapes of great natural charm, dominated by native species such as pine and heather (“uces” in Asturian).
The trail stands out not only for its historical and cultural value but also for the diversity of its flora and fauna. Along the way, small clusters of oaks and chestnut trees can be observed, which, together with pines and heather, create a landscape that changes with the seasons. Native shrubs and wildflowers add special colour, while the local wildlife—such as forest birds, foxes, and small rodents—makes the hike an immersive nature experience.
In addition to its natural value, the path offers different panoramic viewpoints with stunning views of the surrounding valleys and mountains. Some slightly elevated sections allow hikers to enjoy the contrast between dense forests and the open meadows of the Campa de Centenales, which is especially appealing to photography enthusiasts and lovers of contemplative hiking. The seasons also create distinct experiences: spring brings floral scents, summer offers the cool shade of pines, autumn fills the landscape with warm tones, and winter presents a more barren but equally beautiful scenery.
Finally, the route has an important cultural component. The Dolmen da Hucha provides a tangible testimony of the prehistoric communities that inhabited the region, allowing visitors to reflect on the funerary practices and rituals of the time. Likewise, small settlements such as Pradías and the Campa de Centenales preserve local traditions, rural architecture, and customs that enrich the walk, offering insight into the area’s intangible heritage. All of this makes the trail a journey that combines nature, history, and culture, providing a complete experience for those seeking to connect deeply with the Asturian environment.
